David Cutcliffe made a bright coaching decision by swiftly announcing Sunday that Thad Lewis would be his starter for this Saturday’s battle with the Kansas Jayhawks.

However I have simply one dilemma with the way Cutcliffe went about things. It chiefly is such a trifling thing and I was reluctant to even bring it up, but felt obligated to do it.

Cutcliffe confirmed Lewis was one of many athletes who had gotten the flu and missed practice time.

If you tell me Lewis is the man, I am fine with that, essentially because I do not have a choice and you could care less what my belief is. Although there is additionally the fact that you are the head coach/qb guru and recognize more than I will ever understand regarding that position.

There’s no need to tell me Lewis is not one hundred percent.

He definitely claimed he didn’t want to cause a qb debate, although, as the majority of people understand, quarterback controversies 9 times beyond 10 are created by fans and media, not personnel.

If a quarterback controversy manifests because of Renfree’s good play and Lewis’ not so great performance then cope with it if the questions appear.

While I agree with his choice and swiftness of it he may have opened up a small door for criticism of his starter.

If Lewis doesn’t play well at Kansas then Cutcliffe will undoubtedly face questions regarding whether or not Lewis is one hundred percent and if he is not, why isn’t Renfree playing in the game?.

So with respect to the coach’s well being I hope Lewis steps up and wins or has a good game, because the last issue Duke needs right now in the wake of the great motivator of defeating Army is a controversy.

Just ask Coach K if you’re looking for a second opinion. He has been forced to cope with 1 or two of those.
